Stop Procrastinating Now!

Do you often find yourself looking at the heap of paper works on your desk and the “To Do List” in your post it? You swore to yourself for the nth time that you will start working as soon as possible, but you’re still there lazing in your bed or busying yourself by flipping over the cable channels in your television.
Get up and start moving. Procrastinating may be sinfully tempting but you can’t get anywhere unless you start getting serious with the things that are waiting to be done. Below are some helpful tips that will help you kick it off the next time you say to yourself that you really want to start.
• Clean Up the Clutters. If you are faced with loads of things to do but you can’t seem to get started, try tidying up your workspace first. Clean up the clutters and piece of papers scattered all over your desk. Remove unnecessary things in your desk that might cause distraction and lead you to daydreaming. Remember, you need some focus, so if necessitated, putting away your crush’s picture in your table is also a must.
• Set A Realistic Goal. If you plan to finish all your term paper and report in few days time, discipline yourself and make a concrete goal to hit. Allot two hours a day for your term papers, three hours a day for studying and preparing your report, and the rest follows. This way, you’ll be more organized. Again, stick to it.
• Have a Break. Taking a break is not a mortal sin so have some rest if you already feel exhausted. You’re no mutant so it is only natural to get tired. Remember, taking a rest is different from procrastinating but just don’t overdo the relaxing.
Taking some time out will also help you regain the energy that you need to do what you have to do.
• Find the Right Spot and Time. Some people are just night owls while some are really morning people. Others can’t think when they hear any kind of noise while playing upbeat music get other people in the mood for thinking. It all depends on the person, so discover what fits you.
Although it is not really advisable to work inside your bedroom, it can still be considered as the next best thing after the library if you want a quiet place to study and do your stuff. In this way, you’ll be freer from distractions. However, just a little warning, shun away from working in your bed as this is a great temptation. Because the next thing you know, you might just find yourself sleeping instead of finishing a project.
• Reward Yourself. Remember the time when you were always being rewarded with a toy by your parents when you were still a child for having high grades? It worked right? You can use this method to motivate yourself. After a long hour of work and study, give yourself a tap on the back and unwind. According to a study by the National Science Foundation, “The key to having workers who are both satisfied and productive is motivation…” And based on this research, the most effective way to motivate someone is through rewards and recognition.
Through this, you will always look forward to completing another task knowing there’s a reward waiting for you. Nevertheless, don’t make the reward the sole reason for you to strive for your goal.

Who's Your Role Model?
Link: http://www-self-improvement-books.com
When we were kids, we all had our own set of idols and role models, right? Some of us wanted to be a superhero, some of us wanted to be Barbie, while some dreamed of being a doctor, a teacher or a President.
As we grew older, perhaps our role models have changed. However, one fact remains the same. We still have our own role model, someone that we look up to and desire to emulate.
Each person has his or her own role model, and it doesn’t really matter whether the person is dead or alive, famous or not. What matters most is how a certain person affects or inspires another to become a better human being.
More than Just a Role Model
There are instances in one’s life wherein his or her role model becomes more than just a role model – he or she becomes an inspiration. More often than not, people’s role model(s) reflect their personality as well as their aspirations and dreams in life.
Aspiring basketball players in junior high surely have a long list of professional basketball players that they idolize. Similarly, amateur models surely idolize world-renowned models such as Cindy Crawford, Heidi Klum, etc.
Role models serve as inspiration to the persons who idolize and look up to them because they fuel the dream of other people! Their idolizers treat them as a living proof that they too, can become like their idols, if only they work hard enough.
Be Careful In Choosing Your Role Models
People should really be careful in choosing the persons that they choose to idolize because in one way or another, the attitudes and the over-all aura of their chosen role model will surely affect their behaviour.
Do not choose role models who are exhibiting unpleasant and scandalous behaviour because you will not get anything good from it. Make sure that when you choose your role model, it is someone who will encourage and motivate you to work harder and dream bigger.
In a nutshell, you don’t have to be disappointed or frustrated with yourself if ever you fail to become like your role model. Remember that each person is uniquely different from each other and one can never be exactly the same with another person. Even identical twins have their own differences. Learn to accept your strengths and limitations so that you can live your dream without having to face unnecessary self-pity and disappointments.
Eliminating Bad Habits
Link: http://www-self-improvement-books.com
What is addiction? According to the Webster’s dictionary, addiction is the act of putting oneself to a habit. Meaning, the person involved is being reliant on something to the point of eventual obsession. Such habits are generally viewed as bad and harmful, since they can be uncontrollable at times.
What is the cause of addiction? Several addictions are rooted to sorrowful incidents encountered during childhood. Research has shown that children who are prone to addiction are those who have undergone physical maltreatment, embarrassment, degradation and those who are neglected.
Some of the bad habits most people are addicted to, are excess alcohol intake, drugs, smoking, gambling, sex and even food cravings. Do you experience being addicted? It is really a very difficult task of getting rid of something, especially when you’re used to it.
Several misconceptions concerning bad habits or cravings rule over our society today. People say that craving is awful and distressing. They say that it oblige you live with it, to rule your life. It’s difficult to resist because it won’t leave your side. It will always tempt you to use it. It will make you so hooked, such that in time, it becomes very difficult to eliminate.
Do you believe in these fallacies? Even if it says that it is irresistible, the truth is you can withstand it. As time goes by, and as you continue resisting it, it will eventually pass. Believe that you are able to overpower your urges.
Some habits are considered not harmful. But it is also true that anything in excess is bad. Just like drinking alcohol. You can drink occasionally, but if it causes you to drink everyday the effect it will bring you would be detrimental.
The rehabilitation centers are always present. However, you don’t want yourself to be stuck up in rehabs just to run away from vices right? The best thing to do is just don’t let your urges overpower you. In simple terms, don’t let them lead you to addiction.
Ways by Which Bad Habits Can Be Eliminated
You may think that you’re too weak to resist your urges. This is not true. Have faith in yourself. Believe that you can fight them. All you have to do is follow these simple steps:
Slow down, set back and delay. When it attacks your brain, and it keeps on harassing you, slow down for a moment, think of other things. Distract yourself so that it would not saturate your mind.
Divert your attention. Flee away from such situations. If your addiction is on cigarettes, don’t go to places where you will be invited and tempted to smoke. Mingle with people who don’t smoke. If it cannot be avoided, you may seek for alternatives. A cup of coffee will do.
Another good way is for you to make a list of substitutes. Every time you feel tempted, just glance at your list to know what would be the best replacement. If coffee is for cigarette, juice is a good substitute for beer. Working out in a gym would best replace your urge for sex.
Self-motivation is the best way by which you can fight your struggles. Condition your mind and believe that you can make your way out of addiction. If for instance your case is severe, seek an expert. Consult a doctor and let him treat you. Self Talk To Eliminate Anger

When you’re stuck in traffic, it’s so easy to just lose your top and rail at the car in front of you, the car behind you, the cars on either side, those near the traffic lights… you get the picture.
Anger is so easy to ignite, and so hard to defuse. It is the most destructive of emotions, and one of the hardest to handle. Anger has led to physical violence, property destruction, and other damage that has ranged in severity from the disappointing to the devastating. Anger is the undercurrent that envelops domestic violence that leads to divorce, and it is the driving force of terrorism.
While these might lead you to believe that anger is too dangerous to toy with, that suppression is the only answer, let me tell you that it is NOT healthy. Suppressed anger leads to cardiovascular disease. Medical research has found evidence that those people who suppress their anger, don’t deal with it, and seethe inside, are at an elevated risk for coronary heart disease.
So what is to be done with anger, then? Deal with it.
Yes, you heard me, deal with it.
Now while some therapists use a rubber-coated bat and a pillow or a punching bag to allow their clients to release their anger on inanimate objects, there is a more docile way to deal with anger. Self-talk.
It is so simple to use actually. When you feel your temper rising and the conflict escalating, stop. Breathe. And walk away.
When you do, but your mind still races with intense, knotted emotions, this is the time to do self-talk. When you start cursing the one who offended you, stop. Restructure what you just thought and say it out loud in more rational terms. Instead of, “That idiot just ruined my day! Speeding! Thanks to him I have a dented door!” think about why that person was speeding. Maybe he was hurrying to get to the hospital because his wife is in labor. Say, out loud to yourself your theory why the guy was speeding.
Instead of, “She just had to spill ketchup on me! Now look! My silk blouse needs to go to the cleaners!” try to think of reasons why your offender was clumsy. “Maybe she was working for 24 hours straight. Maybe that’s why her coordination’s not so good.”
Always reframe your thoughts in a proactive way. In a way that you take charge of the situation and not stand there like a victim, gaping and sputtering all your indignation at someone who just may have had as bad a day as you.
Remember what I echoed from the findings of medical experts. With every second your face gets redder, you are bound to harm your body and your relationships. Anger is definitely not worth the havoc it wreaks.
It Is Up To Us What We Think.

sciousA friend once told us this amusing fact: his huge Rottweiler is afraid of cats. His story goes that when the dog was a young pup, it tried the usual dog-hates-cats’ snarling and snapping technique on an older cat. Unfazed, the cat coolly let the pup have his merry way. The cat probably got irritated after a while and without warning, a feline claw lashed the dog’s sensitive nose. The poor dog probably felt that it was the worst pain he’ll ever feel that he associated cats with it. From then on, he gave cats a wide berth. Even when he grew the size of a small horse and could probably swallow a whole cat without effort, they still lorded over him. This huge beast, which can reduce grown men to quaking, is afraid of little cute cats.
We can laugh about the absurdity of this pair but come to think of it, don’t we all have our “little cute cats”? Don’t we all have those little fears that shaped us into what we are now? Wasn’t there a particularly painful experience that taught us to react to things in a particular way?
As little kids, we were constantly barraged with lessons on what to do and what not to do. It could be as instructional as ‘don’t play with matches’; ‘don’t talk to strangers’; ‘eat vegetables’ and so on. These got ingrained in your system that doing it became automatic. That’s great but what if you were constantly told ‘you’re not good enough’; ‘your grades are lower than so-and-so’; ‘you’re not pretty’; ‘you’re fat’ etc.? Unfortunately, yes, this negative outlook got into your psyche too. Like a dormant computer virus, it got embedded into your programming. Let’s say you were always told that you’re ugly. You grew up thinking that and each time you try to improve your looks, this ‘virus’ creeps up and tells you ‘don’t bother, you’re ugly’. As it has been in your subconscious for so long, you believe it and will just go on as you are. Substitute the word ‘ugly’ with ‘fat’ or ‘stupid’ or any of those degrading terms and you get the drift.
Would you like to go on like that all the time? Well, pretty much like a computer, you can also give your subconscious an anti-virus to counteract the negatives. The simplest way is to constantly affirm a positive mantra to drown out the negatives. You are, in fact, reprogramming yourself when you do this. Say ‘I am smart and I can ______ (replace with whatever you want to do)’ or whatever variation you can think of. It might take a lot of willpower, practice and time to get accustomed to this new program though. Say it repeatedly, whenever you have a free moment, until it becomes real to you. Remember that all the negatives came about because you heard it all your life. Hearing positives will work the same way.
Unlike my friend’s Rottweiler, we can be smart enough to realize that we are bigger than our ‘cute cats’ and they better stay off our paths when we tell them to go away.
